Draupadi Murmu is an Indian politician and the former Governor of Jharkhand. She was born on June 20, 1958, in Odisha, India. Murmu comes from a tribal background and belongs to the Santhal community, one of the largest tribal communities in India.

Murmu completed her education in Rairangpur, Odisha, and went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Arts. She actively participated in social and political activities from a young age and emerged as a prominent leader advocating for the rights and welfare of the tribal community.

In 2000, Murmu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), one of the major political parties in India. She quickly rose through the ranks and held various positions within the party. In 2010, she was elected to the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly from the Dumka constituency.

Draupadi Murmu’s political career took a significant turn in 2015 when she was appointed as the Minister of State for Human Resource Development in the Government of India. During her tenure, she focused on the upliftment of tribal communities, education, and empowerment of women.

On May 18, 2015, Murmu created history by becoming the first female tribal leader from Jharkhand to be elected as the Governor of the state. She took oath as the Governor of Jharkhand on May 18, 2015, and served in the position until her term ended in May 2020.
